The first holiday of the year is here - Saudi Founding Day

Get set for a vibrant display of colors in the sky because Saudi Founding Day is just around the corner.

This relatively new addition to the Saudi calendar, celebrated annually in February, brings a mix of festivities including fireworks, drone shows, Saudi concerts, and more.

Established in 2022, Saudi Founding Day marks the enthronement of the first Al Saud royal in Diriyah. It's a public holiday, giving both private and public sector employees a day off – perfect for a Saudi staycation.

How Saudi Founding Day

Saudi Founding Day, or simply Founding Day, is a celebration dedicated to the historical moment when Diriyah became the capital of the First Saudi State in 1727.

Introduced in 2022, this holiday is marked by vibrant festivities including fireworks, captivating drone shows, and individuals donning traditional regional attire. Folklore dances, a key component of Saudi national celebrations, come to life with street performers gracing the major streets of the capital.

Notably, Saudi Founding Day is observed on February 22 each year, with celebrations often kicking off a day in advance. This day serves as a holiday for both public and private sectors, offering a break for everyone to partake in the jubilant atmosphere. It's advisable to stay informed about any related days off that may vary each year.

Celebrate Saudi Founding Day with a burst of festivities, including dazzling fireworks, lively concerts, mesmerizing drone shows, and specially crafted themed menus at your favorite restaurants and cafés in Riyadh.

Adding to the spectacle, enjoy parades and airshows that adorn the sky with streaks of green and white, creating a vibrant and patriotic atmosphere during the celebrations.

Difference between Saudi Founding Day and Saudi National Day

It's important to distinguish between Saudi Founding Day and Saudi National Day. Founding Day commemorates the establishment of the First Saudi State in 1727, whereas National Day marks the unification of the Kingdom in 1932, consistently observed on September 23.

While the historical significance differs, both holidays share similar celebrations showcasing Saudi heritage and history. Festivities include shows, music, and a culinary extravaganza, providing a platform for people to revel in the rich cultural tapestry of Saudi Arabia
