Driving in Saudi Arabia? Learn about traffic violation fines, from minor penalties to major offenses that can cost up to SAR 10,000 and lead to vehicle impoundment. Stay informed on common violations and how to check and pay fines online to avoid unnecessary penalties.
Saudi Arabia enforces strict traffic regulations through the General Directorate of Traffic (Muroor), ensuring road safety across the Kingdom. Violations are categorized based on their severity, with fines starting from SAR 100 and exceeding SAR 10,000 in serious cases. In addition to financial penalties, certain offenses may lead to vehicle impoundment.

High-Penalty Violations (SAR 3,000 – 6,000)
These offenses pose significant risks to public safety and often result in immediate action, including vehicle seizure until fines are cleared. Key violations include:
Running red lights
Driving against traffic flow
Drifting (tafheet)
Tampering with or concealing license plates
Overtaking school buses during boarding or drop-off
Unauthorized vehicle modifications such as installing emergency lights or sirens
Failure to stop at designated security checkpoints
Moderate to Heavy Violations (SAR 500 – 900)
These violations impact road discipline and safety, though they are less severe compared to major offenses:
Driving without a valid or renewed license
Operating a vehicle without proper or visible license plates
Overtaking from the right
Using a mobile phone while driving.
Lower-Level Violations (SAR 100 – 300)
While less severe, these infractions still contribute to unsafe road conditions:
Illegal parking or blocking traffic
Not wearing a seatbelt
Failing to use indicators when changing lanes
Driving with an expired vehicle registration (Istimarah)
Specific High-Value Violations
Certain dangerous behaviors carry significantly higher penalties due to the risks involved:
Driving through flooded valleys (wadis), with fines reaching up to SAR 10,000
Modifying vehicle specifications without official approval.
Motorists can easily check and pay their traffic fines online through platforms such as Absher and the Efaa platform, making compliance more convenient and accessible.
Adhering to traffic regulations not only helps avoid penalties but also ensures safer roads for everyone.
